Project: Health and Sanitation: Slaughter, cleaning, disinfection and decontamination at a poultry farm Activity: Health and Sanitation Product: Animal health Geographic data: Lleida, España Start date: May 2013 End date: December 2013 Intervention against an outbreak of the Avian Influenza disease on a farm of laying hens, in which the presence of low pathogenic avian influenza virus serotype H7N1. When it was detected, this being reported to the World Animal Health Organization (OIE), as well as the subsequent report of eradication of the outbreak. The organization of work was carried out in observance of the highest measures of biosafety and protection for the workers. The intervention consisted of the slaughter of the animals on the farm itself using CO2 leak-proof containers authorized for the slaughter and subsequent transport of all by-products to an authorized treatment and disposal plant. Cleaning, disinfection and decontamination of all facilities was carried out thereafter. To confirm the efficacy of the process and the removal of the virus, the appropriate microbiological analysis was also performed before and after the process.
