As the technical and administrative secretariat, this project entailed creating Forests Europe's Technical Liaison Unit in Madrid, an international meeting point between the ministries of environment from 46 countries, including the European Union, responsible for managing its forests

This forum for dialog specialized in forest policy at the international level, funded by the United Nations (Intergovernmental Panel on Forests (IPF), Intergovernmental Forum on Forests (IFF) and the current United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF)), fights against deforestation and seeks to establish foundations and guidelines for the conservation and sustainable development of the European forest lands and the rest of the world's large forested regions.
To promote the so-called Pan-European Process, Forests Europe decided to hold regular Ministerial Conferences on the Protection of Forests (MCPFE). With this in mind, it created a structure coordinated by a General Committee composed of the countries that alternate, every 4-5 years, in organizing the Ministerial Conferences. The next conference is scheduled to be held in Spain, in 2015.
