Project: Project BIOFOREST Activity: Environment Product: PLANNING AND ADMINISTRATION OF THE TERRITORY Geographic data: España Start date: May 2013 End date: December 2016 Development of a model for using forest biomass for energy purposes Development of a new forest management model based on harnessing biomass energy, which makes the exploitation of public forests viable, enabling all or part of the costs to be recovered. The activities outlined focus on the use of LIDAR technology (Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging), which enables determining the distance from a laser emitter to an object or surface using a pulsed laser beam. Tragsa uses this system for inventory, estimating stock and determining extraction costs. New models of sustainable forest management for energy purposes are being investigated, in addition to novel solutions for adapting the biomass from the treatments to combat pinewood nematode.
