Project: Management and Maintenance of the Communities of Farmers with Irrigation Rights in Leon. PROGAR Syst Activity: Water Product: Irrigation and drainage Geographic data: España The irrigation network "PROGAR" system, is a complex irrigation schedule that takes advantage of the most economical power intervals, providing considerable energy savings, reducing costs and enabling the sustainable use of water resources. This technological development, implemented in collaboration with Sociedad Estatal de Infraestructuras Agrarias (a State-owned company for agricultural infrastructures, SEIASA) of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, manages the needs and demands of each plot based on a number of rather variable parameters such as the weather, the water needs of the different crops, the physical properties of the soil, the efficiency of the irrigation systems, the water levels in the aquifer and even potential levels of evaporation. This project, of high technological value, involved a huge investment which will reach its maximum value and profitability as soon as the construction work is completed and the parties involved in its development collaborate together in running the irrigation system. The Tragsa Group currently upholds this commitment, and since 2006, it has been managing the operation and maintenance of 30,000 hectares of these crop areas of the Communities of Farmers with Water Rights in Payuelos, Porma and Páramo Bajo, in the province of León.
