Artificial recharge of aquifers within the framework of sustainable development

This R&D project was carried out in a twofold approach:
On the one hand, a GIS (Geographic Information System) technology was developed to determine, first of all, the peninsular areas where the employment of this technique is most recommended. This led to the development of a hydrogeology portal, which studies hydrogeological, physical, environmental and economic factors, among others. The result provides information about both the most appropriate areas as well as the device best suited to each one.
On the other hand, the best techniques based on detailed studies on already existing devices were studied, increasing knowledge on the best practices and most effective designs.
We participated in international work groups and received support from the IAH (International Association of Hydrogeologists), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Complutense University (Madrid).
