Project: Technical and administrative support for developing bathing water profiles Activity: Water Product: Hydraulic adjustment Geographic data: España Start date: September 2008 End date: October 2010 Carried out in collaboration with the Autonomous University of Madrid, this project arose from the need to comply with Appendix III of Directive 2006/7/EC, which requires the development of the environmental profiles of the 207 inland bathing protected areas spread throughout all of Spain. The first tasks carried out for evaluating and controlling the quality of the water in the bathing areas involved taking a sample of the phytoplankton. During this phase, which included defining a sampling protocol, in addition to storing and transporting the samples, the technicians also determined the parameters in situ, evaluating specific events of short-term contamination, and establishing a plan of action to remedy them. Then, based on laboratory analyses capable of determining the presence of potentially toxic cyanobacteria and the toxins they produce, the environmental profiles for evaluating each bathing area will be established, which will be published in the Information System NÁYADE, belonging to the Spanish Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality.
