Project: Environmental restoration and remodelling of Aletas Park for public use Activity: Infrastructures Product: Land improvements Geographic data: Puerto Real, Cádiz, España Start date: April 2011 End date: December 2012 The goal is to recover a dried out marsh area for the construction of an industrial complex in the area known as "Las Aletas", by the micro-topographic adaption of the land, thereby enabling the floodable surface area to be expanded and the marsh ecosystem to gradually be recovered. This space, set within the Natural Park of the Bay of Cadiz, an area of marshes, pine forests, with areas of brushwood, estuaries, sandy areas and beaches, has been protected since 1989 due to its high cultural and ecological value, whose enjoyment, thanks to the new infrastructures of public use, will stimulate the development of the local tourism sector. The Bay of Cadiz is an area rich in bird life, home to endangered species such as the flamenco and the osprey, a natural richness that is added to the cultural importance of its ancient salt mines, which is complemented by the traditional arts of coastal fishing and other artisan trades, as well as the collection of clams and shrimp.
