Project: Project HABITATS Activity: Studies, Technical Support and Consultancy Product: Photogrammetric Flights and LIDAR Geographic data: España Start date: January 2010 End date: December 2013 This project is motivated by the INSPIRE initiative (Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe), and seeks to improve the quality, uniformity and standardization of geographical information. The European Directive 2007/2 INSPIRE (Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe) was passed with the idea of overcoming the significant challenges that exist when it comes to accessing geographical information, which does not allow for an efficient formulation, implementation, and monitoring of the territorial dimension of EU policies. INSPIRE seeks to improve the quality, ensuring the maintenance of geographic information and making it more accessible. The objective of the HABITATS project is to promote the implementation of the INSPIRE initiative in Europe and to accelerate the development of value-added public services on spatial data, thereby facilitating their standardization and reuse. As the working methodology, the concept of Social Spaces for Research and Innovation was used and has been implemented in seven real pilot projects. The Tragsa Group has been involved in two of them: the La Palma Marine Reserve and the Soria Natural Reserve. As a final result of the project, numerous applications on mobile devices were developed, maritime control systems were adapted to the users' real needs and metadata was precisely defined and is now being used in new projects.
