Project: Assistance in safety and health matters during the completion of the works in the channel of Zújar Activity: Water Product: Irrigation and drainage Geographic data: Don Benito, Badajoz, España The irrigable area of the Zújar Canal has been modernized by installing a new automated telecontrol network capable of operating with total autonomy, even in situations of loss of communication with the Control Center. The irrigable area of the Zújar Canal (Don Benito, Badajoz), has been modernized with the launch of a new automated Telecontrol Network, based on new 4G telephone technologies in GPRS mode, consisting of 6,400 remote units distributed throughout the irrigable area, capable of operating with total autonomy even in situations where communication with the Control Center is lost. This innovative technological modernization project, which enables the programming of 8,553 strategically placed hydrants for irrigation, is an improvement in the control and management of water, also offering the possibility to calculate the real-time consumption by the farmers with water rights, speeding up the billing for the service by installing a hydraulic diaphragm valve with a turbine meter, which replaces the old existing meters in each intake. One of the biggest constraints of the project was the need for an autonomously powered system due to the lack of electrical power to the remote units, which is why we opted to install 5W solar panels with 6V batteries.
