The creation of a recycling centre for temporary storage of waste until they are processed by the authorities in charge, arises due to the need to manage the amount of waste materials generated by the fleet of vehicles at the barracks, and by the ships berthed at their facilities.

The main challenge of the project was calculating the potential behaviour of the chosen land, located a few meters from the pipes of Las Culeras, which resulted in performing geotechnical studies to calculate the necessary foundation of a subsoil composed of superficial filling on the surface, varying in thickness from 50 cm to 1 m, followed by a layer of sludge with low load-bearing capacity that reaches 22 m in depth.
The movements of earth and foundation required the demolition of the existing road surface in the concentration zone, levelling and compacting the land and the access area. The footings and braces were subsequently dug up for the foundation of the building, removing earth to the edges, with no load or transport to the landfill and with proportional amount of auxiliary equipment.
These buildings, which measure 22.20 m by 13.20 m, have a laminated steel structure consisting of 5 arcades with trusses spanning 13.20 m between the axles, measuring 4.50 m in abutment height and 5.65 m in ridge height, with a separation of 5.5 m between the arcades.
The pillars are welded to base plates measuring 400 x 400 x 20 mm, which are anchored to a foundation made of cast-in-place piles with permanent CPI-5 casing measuring 45 cm in diameter, with one pile cap per 100x100x56 cm pile, and frames measuring 12 mm in diameter.
The floor of the building is made of 40 cm-thick reinforced concrete, with 12 mm-thick round bars separated 25 cm longitudinally and horizontally, both above and below the slab.
The gabled roof is made of 6 mm-thick double steel plate, with one side pre-lacquered and the other galvanized.
The bottom part of the enclosure is formed by a wall of concrete blocks with lintel up to 1 m in height, and on the top part there are steel profiles. On top of these steel profiles, corrugated transparent polycarbonate panels that reach a height of 1.7 m are mounted. The building is ventilated through an aperture of 75 cm at the top of the side walls.
The metal carpentry of the building consists of 2 chainlink access doors on metal profiles with two hinged leaves measuring 2m high and 5 m wide.
The supply connection for the installation of water is made from the existing general supply network through a buried high-density polyethylene pipe measuring 32 mm in diameter, up to the point of distribution located in the shower-eyewash area. Starting from this last point, there is another set of indoor piping, also made of HDPE, measuring 20 mm in diameter, which supplies cold water to the shower-eyewash unit and to a 3/4" tap for screwing on a hose.
The shower-eyewash safety unit with a shower and double-jet eyewash station, will be used for cleaning staff in the event of exposure to splashes of dangerous substances, since decontamination by spraying water is considered to be the best treatment, provided it is done within seconds immediately after the accident.
This health and safety station is located near the cabinet-storage unit for hazardous substances and discharges directly onto the floor.
In the central area of the plant, there is a polymer concrete gutter with a metal grille which is sloped at a 1° angle to collect any possible accidental spills of products on the floor, the water overflow from the shower-eyewash unit and the dirty water from cleaning the building.
